The best way to propose is in the traditional way, and if you didn’t know that means spontaneously and romantically. This will be one of the most special moments in your life and your girlfriend’s life, so make it count.
The four rules to a great proposal:
- Don’t give the game away beforehand.
- Make the moment special and intimate.
- You must get down on one knee.
- The entire day must be one she will remember and cherish forever.
Not giving the game away means not telling any of her friends, your friends or your family before the big day. It means not getting over excited around her or treating her any differently from any other time. Keep your cool and hide your anxiety.
When planning the moment, think about the things she most loves. By this I mean food, scenery, weather, activities, a special place in her heart or a great memory for you both. You don’t need to spend a lot of money either; proposals are all about the thought and romance, of which money doesn’t need to be a part of.
Tradition says you must get down on one knee, and she will expect this. Don’t let your ego get the better of you or get embarrassed and silly. Seize the moment like a true man and she will love your chivalry. Don’t end up embarrassing here though. A lot of guys make a big public spectacle and that spoils the moment for the lady because she is too shy to fully enjoy the intimacy. Do it away from prying eyes and share the moment heart to heart.
From beginning to end you must have a plan, not just for the proposal moment, but for the entire day. You don’t want a huge build up and then an anti-climax (pardon the pun). Keep her riding high with a fun-filled day of surprises and romantic gestures. Don’t be cheesy and don’t try too hard, plan and string the day together seamlessly from moment to moment.
